Menopause - How strength training can help!

Menopause - How strength training can help!

World Menopause

World Menopause Day is to raise awareness about menopause and the support options available for improving health and well-being during this stage of life. It aims to educate the women about the symptoms, health risks, and treatments associated with menopause, as well as to encourage open conversations about the experiences of women going through this transition.

The day also highlights the importance of early intervention in managing menopause-related symptoms like hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and emotional changes, as well as the long-term effects on bone health, cardiovascular risk, and overall quality of life.

Promoted by organisations such as the International Menopause Society (IMS), it encourages women to focus on enhancing education, access to care, and improving health outcomes for women worldwide during and after menopause.

Strength training can help alleviate some common menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, fatigue, and joint pain, by improving overall health and fitness.

Lean muscle building is key. Why? It improves bone density

Estrogen helps maintain bone health, and after menopause, the drop in oestrogen increases the risk of osteoporosis. Weight-bearing exercises, like strength training, stimulate bone growth and improve bone density, reducing the risk of fractures.

You want another reason to hit the gym?

New research shows that strength training activates BAG3 in the muscles, which is a protein that triggers what’s known as autophagy — our body’s built-in garbage disposal and recycling system. This helps slow aging and prevents disease. In short: Strength training helps clear out the body's trash!
